The Old Stone Bank Building
It is impossible for me to write about the Providence Institution for Savings, known as the Old Stone Bank, and not get emotional. Providence is recognized nationally for having an extraordinary collection of architecturally significant buildings. The jewel in this botanical garden of architectural styles, for me, is the Old Stone Bank building located at 86 South Main Street. It is one of the great buildings in America. Once you have seen the building, it forever demands your attention and curiosity. In 2009 I was asked by the owner of the Old Stone bank to photograph the building and make a limited edition book. The resulting book addressed its entire history from the its creation during the Industrial Revolution to its bankruptcy in the 1990s.
